  • (1888PressRelease) July 04, 2009 - Beaconsfield, UK – Sunrise Senior Living, the high quality care home alternative, has embraced the idea of promoting the awareness of Alzheimer’s and other dementias by organising talks, seminars, fundraisers and meetings with care professionals at all 27 Sunrise residences in England and Wales during Dementia Awareness Week.

Whilst in the past, individual Sunrise residences participated in dementia awareness activities, never before has a fully coordinated programme been organised that features 70 individual events in total including: tea dances, dealing with memory loss seminars, fashion shows, sponsored walks, open house events and street parties.

Many events will be organized to raise funds for The Alzheimer’s Society (the charity that has designated the special week) but the overall emphasis will be on actually promoting a greater understanding of age-related memory loss and ways to provide practical and empathic care for those who have a condition of this kind.

Dementia Awareness Week at Sunrise will also be promoted through national press advertising in The Times and Telegraph and local newspapers serving areas around Sunrise residences.

“Sunrise Senior Living has been at the vanguard of caring for seniors with dementia for more than 25 years. It is fitting that Sunrise should mark this special week with a powerful awareness-building and fundraising campaign that brings age-related memory loss to the fore. Everyone at Sunrise has a passion for care and this is a great opportunity to share that in a purposeful way,” commented John Kirk, Director of Sales and Marketing for Sunrise’s UK operation.

Most of Sunrise’s events are open to the public. Those interested in participating should visit www.sunrise-care.co.uk or call Sunrise on 0800 012 1861.
