  • (1888PressRelease) April 08, 2011 - The UK economy contracted by 0.6% during the final quarter of last year, with some of the decline attributed to the coldest December on record. The Office for National Statistics estimated that the cold snap contributed to the drop by 0.5%. The figures for the UK's service sector then continued to challenge UK business during February. The Markit/CIPS Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) survey demonstrated that overall the economy did recover during January. Yet muted growth within this service sector continues to trouble many senior analysts.

"There is evidence to indicate that the UK is thankfully now considered unlikely to enter the 'double dip recession' that so many firms have been concerned about. On the other hand, the figures demonstrate the service sector is clearly still facing some difficult conditions. Our response has been the same as before 2007 in many respects. We have simply been supporting service companies to grow and thrive despite the economic downturn. For example, one third of our practice is still devoted to our clients within music and entertainment. We also have a very long track record serving clients from restaurants, hotels and travel. And here we have certainly seen some very welcome, strong developments over the last year. We support businesses to optimise every area of their operations whilst bringing them fresh opportunities and contacts. We also provide specialised services for accountancy and audit, tax and corporate finance."

There were also concerns at the fifth month in a row showing an increase in UK unemployment. Job cuts within the public sector had been hoped to have been offset by gains within the private sector. Accompanying these figures, there are concerns that service sector growth is restricted by underwhelming consumer spending. As well as entertainment, SRLV work with clients within other affected industries:

"We are advising clients within media and advertising, where we have all seen some very high profile budgeting restrictions in the headlines lately. Again, our key focus is to support firms to nonetheless grow and expand. Of course, we're also on hand to begin immediately tackling a variety of operational problems. And our accountancy services are a must for any business in any sector, in any state of health. It allows you to present a strong message that your business is well managed to your shareholders, banks, investors and trading partners. For your own purposes, the audit we offer provides incredibly valuable insights into both core and peripheral activities. There are some encouraging signs in many sectors, but there is still never been a better time to undertake this work".
