(1888PressRelease) October 18, 2025 - NEW CANAAN, Conn. - In the United States, the prevalence of schizophrenia is estimated to be 1 percent of the total population. Data from Europe and Canada suggests this percentage is on the rise – with the financial cost to society enormous and the emotional toll immense. A groundbreaking new book offers support in managing the weight of such a diagnosis. Lives Reimagined: Changing the Course of Psychotic Illness offers readers insight into a treatment approach that can reshape lives and provide an understanding of the factors that lead to a transformative experience for those struggling with neuropsychiatric brain disease (NBD).
Based on the work of psychiatrist Rocco Marotta, MD, Ph.D. and the clinical team at The Lodge Program at Silver Hill Hospital, the book provides readers rare access to the workings of a program clinically renowned for impact with “hopeless” cases.
“The Lodge Program has become a true example of Silver Hill Hospital at its best, offering the highest quality clinical treatment to our most complex patients, extending that care well beyond the expected to restore hope, lives and meaning,” says Silver Hill President and Medical Director Andrew J. Gerber, MD, Ph.D.
Readers of Lives Reimagined will find a wealth of practical information interspersed with patients, parents and treatment teams’ personal stories including:
▪ Why long-term partnerships between clinicians, family members and patients matter;
▪ How community integration, personal experience and active therapy intersect to promote healing; and
▪ What to do when standard care pathways fail and how to adapt with evolving methodologies
Lives Reimagined is structured to provide crucial information for both the general public and mental health professionals. The dual perspective of personal stories and clinical lessons makes the book a unique blend of resources and reassurance, sure to be part of a new practice standard.
“Severe mental illness ranks with cancer as one of the two most terrifying and destructive scourges known to mankind,” reports Ron Powers, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author of No One Cares About Crazy People. “[The authors] have produced a rich and far-ranging compendium of fact, interpretation, advice and medical insights shedding powerful light on NBD.”
Lives Reimagined is currently available at SDP Publishing, Amazon and Barnes & Noble. It’s published by SDP Publishing and co-authored by a team of experienced mental health professionals.
Rather than highlighting one single success story or study, Lives Reimagined offers a new philosophy of comprehensive care, rooted in trust among a collaborative team and a commitment to adapt to patient needs. While mental health services are under incredible strain and families increasingly feel isolated by public stigma, this book invites readers into a broader conversation about what care can and should look like.
