  • Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV (1888PressRelease) April 17, 2010 - Actor Shin Koyamada serves as the next celeb judge on the 2010 National Japan Bowl, according to the Japan America Society of Washington DC in which US Ambassador John R. Marlott serves as President and CEO and US Ambassador Rust M. Deming serves as Chairman.

The Japan Bowl is an academic competition that tests the achievements of high school students throughout the United States who are studying the Japanese language. But the Japan Bowl goes beyond language. It also tests the students' knowledge of "Japan, the country."

The format is modeled on popular quiz shows such as "It's Academic." Teams from across the nation compete for two days at three different levels, depending on how long they have studied Japanese.
On the 2010 National Japan Bowl, Koyamada helps judge the each high school contestant who must create a proper Japanese sentence with the randomly given Japanese vocabulary in a small window of time and correctly speak it.

Koyamada said, "I am amazed by how well American high school students have gained the interest and knowledge of Japanese language and its country."

Through the Japan Bowl, the Japan-America Society and its many supporters recognize and show appreciation to those high school students from across the United States who have chosen Japanese as their foreign language.
