Shakeia Pinnick, Junior, Waubonsie Valley HS set 6 meet records in securing victory in the heptathlon. The defending champion was very excited after setting meet records in the 100m hurdles, 200m and 800m. Pinnick scored a total of 5,053 points which is currently the top mark in the nation for HS girls and the #2 mark among Juniors (age 19 and under). The heptathlon consists of seven events over 2 days (100m hurdles), High Jump, Shot Put, 200m, Long Jump, Javelin, and 800m. She set the first day record of 3,016 points, the second day meet record of 2,034 points, the 100m hurdle record of 14.30, the 200m record of 24.40, the 800m record of 2:15 and the overall meet record of 5,053 points.

Pinnick competes for the Aurora Flyers Track Club during the summer and for the 3rd year in a row will compete at the USATF Junior National Championships at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Her mark in the heptathlon, which is a personal best, would have made the NCAA provisional mark for the Division 1 Championships(5,050). She is currently a Junior at Waubonsie Valley HS in Aurora, IL. Shakeia mentioned “It’s pretty cool and definitely exciting” when asked how it felt to have the number one ranking.

She also set the AAU national record in 2007 in the 400m hurdles (59.48) in the intermediate girls (15-16) age group. She was ranked 6th in the world in the youth age group (17 and under) according to IAAF with her personal best mark of 59.11 in the 400H. She was only 16 at the time she set that mark. She won 2 gold medals at the AAU National Championships, with the other being the heptathlon. She is planning to compete this June in the 400m hurdles also at the US Junior championships.

Two of Shakeia’s Aurora Flyers teammates also medaled at the IPTT championship: Sophomore McKinzie Schulz of Naperville (3938 points), and freshman Savannah Emmrich of Plainfield placed 7th (3191). For complete results see www.il.dyestat.com.
