  • Daytona Beach, FL (1888PressRelease) March 31, 2012 - The Home Instead Senior CareŽ office serving Volusia County and Daytona Beach nominated Charlie and Polly H. for recognition in the Salute to Senior ServiceSM program. Charlie and Polly a husband and wife team, have given countless hours as volunteers to Bert Fish Medical Center.

    From 2002 to present, Charlie and Polly have dedicated over 58,000 hours of their time to the Auxiliary Department at the hospital. Polly joined the Bert Fish Medical Center (BFMC) Auxiliary in October of 2002 as a volunteer in the Emergency Department, the Pharmacy, the Ocean Blue Coffee Shop and the Pink Door Thrift Shop. Polly was elected to the Executive Board as President from 2009-2011 and also served as the Vice President for 3 years in a row. She is currently working as the Gift Shop Chairman and buyer, Pink Door Thrift Shop Team Leader, and Auxiliary Lobby Sales Chairman, and Assistant Treasurer on the Executive Board.

    Charlie joined the BFMC Auxiliary in February 2005 also as a volunteer in the Ocean Blue Coffee Shop, the Gift Shop, and the Pink Door Thrift Shop. He is now the Pink Door Thrift Shop Chairman and Scholarship Chairman. Charlie has also been elected to the Executive Board as the 1st and 2nd Vice President 3 years in a row. He is currently serving as the President of the Executive Board.

    Charlie and Polly are both fantastic members of the community, giving additional time to other organizations. They volunteer with their local church on the personnel committee, in the church office, and also help with the church monthly newsletter. Polly has also volunteered for People for a Drug-Free Youth in the local area. In addition to their volunteer work, Home Instead Senior Care has partnered with Charlie and Polly through Bert Fish Medical Center Auxiliary, working on quarterly meetings and special events.

    The Salute to Senior Service program, which launched in January 2012, includes a search for the most outstanding senior volunteer in each state and will culminate with the selection of a national Salute to Senior Service winner during Older Americans Month in May.
