Phoenix-Mesa, AZ (1888PressRelease) September 18, 2026 - Arizona's rules for motorcyclists changed in September 2026, and Saguaro Injury Law has published a plain-language guide and video to help riders understand what the new law does - and what it leaves unchanged. Under House Bill 2941, signed into law on June 22, 2026 and effective as of mid-September 2026, lane splitting - riding a motorcycle between lanes of moving traffic - is now classified as reckless driving in Arizona. Reckless driving is a class 2 criminal misdemeanor: a judge can order a convicted rider to surrender their license, the conviction is reported to the Arizona Department of Transportation, and ADOT can suspend driving privileges for up to 90 days. A second reckless driving conviction within 24 months is treated as a class 1 misdemeanor, carrying at least 20 days in jail and a one-year suspension of driving privileges.

The new law does not change lane filtering, which Arizona legalized in 2022. Filtering - moving between fully stopped vehicles - remains legal only on roads posted 45 mph or less with two or more adjacent lanes, at speeds no greater than 15 mph, and never on a freeway.
