Chicago’s own broadcasting legend, Richard Steele, will kick off Chicago Public Radio’s new series, “Right Now” by hosting a conversation with guests and listeners about the thorny case of Alton Logan.

In 1982, Logan was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a McDonald’s security guard. Recently, two lawyers testified in court that their late client, Andrew Wilson, confessed to the crime 26 years ago. The attorneys say they were bound to silence because of attorney client privilege, an almost sacred rule in the legal profession. Logan’s next hearing is scheduled for April 18, 2008.

Guests will include John Conroy, a reporter who’s followed the Alton Logan case for Chicago Public Radio; Jamie Kunz, the former lawyer who testified in January that Alton Logan is innocent; Karen Daniel, lead attorney at the Center for Wrongful Convictions at Northwestern University; and Dana Holland, who was wrongfully convicted of rape and robbery.

During the broadcast, Richard Steele will take calls and emails from listeners about Logan’s case and criminal justice in Illinois to add to the discussion. Steele is particularly interested in hearing from those within the criminal justice system in Illinois or who have been affected by it.

WBEZ would like to invite members of the media to observe the live program on Wednesday at its Navy Pier studio.
