  • (1888PressRelease) October 10, 2012 - Medical Training and Simulation LLC has launched a free pulmonary course available at http://www.practicalclinicalskills.com/respiratory-course-contents.aspx?courseid=210. This course was created by William French, medical educator and author of Case Profiles in Respiratory Care, Delmar Publishing.

This course consists of eight pulmonary care patient case studies. Each case includes the patient's history, vital signs and test results. Questions are used throughout the course in order to engage the student.

The course has several uniquely powerful patient simulations to further engage students and improve clinical skills. The patient's lung sounds are established by having the student listen to lung sounds using a virtual patient torso. Feedback on the auscultation findings is immediately provided. Most of the cases also require that the patient's blood pressure be evaluated. The student can use either a mercury or dial blood pressure cuff to measure the virtual patient's blood pressure.

In the final part of each case study, students must provide a diagnosis. Then, based upon the correct diagnosis, the student must indicate a course of treatment. Student performance is tracked by an interactive scoring system.

This respiratory care course is the latest in a series of courses provided by www.practicalclinicalskills.com. For students and practitioners refreshing their skills, the Practical Clinical Skills website provides additional courses covering heart sounds and murmurs, lung sounds, EKG lessons, arrhythmia drills and blood pressure assessment. These courses use web-based simulators to enhance learning and facilitate skills improvement.

The courses and reference are compatible with PC, MAC and iPad web browsers. Several of the reference guides are also available for iPhones and Android devices.
