  • Gainesville, FL (1888PressRelease) July 30, 2010 - Concert pianist Kevin Orr completes his Brahms cycle of Ballades and Sonatas by releasing Nos. 1 & 2 for record label Meyer Media llc (MM10015). His previous release of Ballades and Sonata No. 3 was hailed as "some of the most insightful and beautiful interpretations ever performed" (MM08005). Record label founder, Andreas Meyer comments, "After receiving so many positive reviews from listeners and respectable journals such as Gramophone, our belief in the creative force Kevin possesses was proven through. Two years later we heard his concerts of Brahms Nos. 1 and 2, and we knew we had a repeat tour de force! I immediately scheduled sessions with him as soon as possible". With a new venue and new concert Steinway, Gore Recital Hall at the University of Delaware Newark campus provided fertile ground for which Kevin to express his talent. Exquisitely recorded by Andreas Meyer himself, every nuance of emotional inflection and rich interpretation flows through. Kevin shows flawless technique through quick passages where most pianists sound a blur. Though at times you feel the unrelenting power of Kevin's playing on this Steinway is about to overtake you, you listen in amazement how these dense harmonies just flow through his fingers and bring us in concert breath. Finally, Brahms long misunderstood early Sonata's are clear for our understanding and enjoyment. Upon first listen it is as though you are hearing these works for the first time. So foreign were they to us, Kevin has not only translated, but gives a fascinating story for us to enjoy. Brahms as a young man clearly had a lot to say.
