  • (1888PressRelease) August 10, 2012 - With the recent surge in counterfeit and diverted drugs in the headlines it looks as if the California serialization and e-pedigree mandates will remain at the forefront for the pharmaceutical supply chain. After several extensions by the California Board of Pharmacy over the past decade, their provisions for item level serialization and an e-pedigree will come into effect January 2015 barring any federal intervention.

Michael Stewart, Strategy Development of PharmTech Inc., has made available the PharmTech "Pharmaceutical Serialization and e-Pedigree Strategy Guide for California 2015 Compliance." The serialization and e-pedigree guide was developed internally as a project management primer to arm stakeholders with interests in their companies e-pedigree initiatives with a road map to direct their projects.

When asked about the Guide, Mr. Stewart responded "The pharmaceutical industry is at varying developmental stages for e-pedigree and serialization. PharmTech has worked with mid-sized traditional and virtual manufacturers that have just begun strategy development this year, as well as assisted in program mangement for a major Top 10 pharmaceutical the past four years." He continued, "I designed this Guide to provide direction and point out many of the areas and questions that go unaddressed by most solution providers and internal teams. Some manufacturers hand PharmTech the ball and say design it, implement it and pilot it, while others ask us to define work areas, strategy, requirements and then decide what they can do internally and where they need external resources. Either way, this Guide will help them make those decisions and provide a compass for their project."

With less than 30 months until the California serialization and e-pedigree mandates take effect. The time to move forward is now.
