Period property snapped up

Top Quote Held at The Blue Mountain Golf Club in Binfield, on Wednesday, 25th September, Romans' fifth auction of the year was a great success, with standing room only, and went with a real bang - of the hammer, that is. End Quote
  • (1888PressRelease) October 17, 2013 - With all the lots sold going at or above the guide price, September's auction saw sales totalling £2,436,000. This took the value of properties sold at auction so far this year to over £15 million.

Residential houses and flats for renovation were in demand from investors and potential owner-occupiers alike, and 75% of all available lots were sold. All signs certainly seemed to show that sales in the South East are on the up, with many highly motivated buyers.

Among the lots on offer was 3 Kiln Cottages, in Emmer Green - a period cottage with planning permission for an attached two-bedroom house with a garage. With good access to Reading town centre and Henley-on-Thames, there was keen interest in this ideal investment property and, after fierce bidding, it was snapped up for £335,000, off a guide price of £300,000.

Attendance at the auction was high, with considerable competition for properties. Simon Clayton, Auctions Director and Auctioneer, commented: "As the region's leading auction house it's not surprising that there was standing room only at our September auction. We experienced very strong bidding on a variety of property types, from residential houses and flats requiring modernisation, through commercial property for improvement, to building land with and without planning permission."

Drawing a great deal of attention, another prime property on offer was a vacant, Victorian, two + one, mid-terrace house at 22 Hilcot Road, in Reading. Following some highly competitive bidding, it finally went for £167,000 off a guide price of £140,000.

It would certainly seem that the market is hotting up, as Simon Clayton commented: "All the indicators show an improving market with some excellent prices being achieved in the right circumstances."
