(1888PressRelease) April 12, 2013 - This month saw the final round of business applications for financial help from the Governments Regional Growth Fund. Started in 2011, the fund aims to pump £2.6 billion into businesses in England to further local growth in the regions.
The latest round of funding applications closed on 20th March and is expected to provide some £350 million for regional businesses, encouraging job creation and expansion. Previous rounds have already pledged to safeguard half a million jobs and generate an additional private sector input of some £13 billion. Regional companies have benefited from a variety of business support schemes in recent times, ranging from cash injections to greater access to resources. Small to medium sized firms can also get help via multiple business lending schemes. Then the Funding For Lending Scheme was launched in 2012 and is backed by the Bank of England. It aims to provide business lending at heavily discounted rates through high street banking, for example, business loans, and asset finance. There is also the Governments Enterprise Finance Guarantee, aimed at providing the necessary security for those companies who would like to access greater lending but currently cannot do so.
The Government overhauled the provision of support available through England's Regional Development Agencies in 2012, replacing them with the new Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs). There is also now Government help available online to identify additional sources of funding for a great variety of business sectors. Twenty four Government Enterprise Zones now exist across the country. These promote business growth via simplified planning procedures, reduction or exemptions from business rates, and development funding. By phone, the Governments' business advice and support service Business Link now has a direct dial helpline operating throughout the week.
