  • Phoenix-Mesa, AZ (1888PressRelease) September 23, 2009 - After the highly successful launch of Nouveau Riche's first-ever Teen Financial Literacy (TFL) Program for teens ages 13-17 at its July 2009 Real Estate Investment College, Nouveau Riche is pleased to announce the offer to participate in its second session to be held on October 10, 2009 in Glendale, AZ. The offer is open to teen-based charitable organizations that meet specified registration criteria. Through TFL, Nouveau Riche takes a huge step forward in bridging the often wide gap between what teens know about finances and what's actually taught in traditional school settings. The mission of the program is "to offer teenagers a collaborative learning environment with engaging, relevant instruction that provides meaning in academic experiences and builds skillsets for the future."

Co-taught by Nouveau Riche Instructors Craig Cottrell and Phil Lechter, nearly 50 teens participated in July's interactive, eye-opening TFL class. "We need to educate our kids early, teaching them the fundamentals of smart money management that can empower them today and tomorrow," says Craig Cottrell. "The July session was a phenomenal success in getting teens thinking about their spending and saving habits now and how to set a plan in motion to accomplish their future goals," added Phil Lechter.

Through exploratory discussions, breakout application exercises, and reflective discussions, teens at the July Nouveau Riche class learned the basics of budgeting and smart spending, financial management vehicles, credit, and more. Students grasped a solid, foundational understanding of financial literacy and what this vital knowledge can mean for their future aspirations. Echoing the sentiments of his fellow classmates, one student stated, "I wish I'd learned this information sooner….I feel better prepared for my future now." Another student commented, "I will be able to reach higher because I will be able to make smart [financial] decisions."

Nouveau Riche's TFL class is free and available on a first-come, first-served basis for eligible participants. The registration deadline for the October session is Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 8:30pm. Interested organizations should contact Lilly Abbo at (480) 850-1511 for registration criteria while seats last.

More About Nouveau Riche's Teen Financial Literacy Program
By promoting a healthy financial outlook, Nouveau Riche's Teen Financial Literacy class helps teenagers develop responsible financial habits that reduce trial and error in the management of their consumer credit experiences. This class helps define a path to accumulating wealth through saving money at a young age and allowing compounding interest to pay over time. Students will learn how to plan a realistic budget by bringing their income and expenses into balance and minimizing spending such that there is money available to save. These two ‘life lessons' are combined with other financial principles to help teens prevent costly mistakes, increase their personal savings, and generate wealth for themselves and the next generation.
