  • Scranton--Wilkes-Barre-Hazleton, PA (1888PressRelease) March 06, 2009 - eCmmR today announced the official launch of www.ecmmr.net. The Web site was developed to directly connect e-commerce professionals together via a social network. Created by Keith Kalmanowicz, a laid off e-commerce professional, who grew frustrated while trying to open his own e-commerce store.

"I helped hundreds of people create and run successful e-commerce stores, but when I wanted to do it on my own I ran into roadblock after roadblock. I turned to the Web to for help and advice to make my life easier and my store more successful. The information was available, but finding it was cumbersome. I spent countless hours subscribing to various blogs, wiki's, and discussion forums, and the same amount of time trying to remember each username and password. I wanted a single repository for this information similar to Facebook and MySpace, so I set out to create my own social network just for e-commerce professionals."

The trial version of www.ecmmr.net was built using Elgg Software, an open source social networking platform, and released to handful of individuals via email invitation. The trial was successful, and the platform was vigorously tested. User feedback was collected, and members of the network requested more control over their content and an increase in security features. These requested features yielded more functionality than the standard Elgg install, and eCmmR decided to test additional social networking platforms. After testing and user feedback, eCmmR made the decision to switch their site to the Ning network in February 2009.

"Ning was able to give my members the functionality and security they required, and removed the burden of administering a social network on my own. I was left with time to work on what's important to me, membership"

The objective of www.ecmmr.net is to promote sharing of knowledge and experiences throughout the e-commerce community. The Web site is a conduit to connect members who have questions with members who have answers. It also provides the opportunity to meet new people with similar interests and work experiences.
