  • (1888PressRelease) December 27, 2016 - TeaOrb Services LLP, a technology driven marketing, consulting and tourism start-up, headquartered in Guwahati, announces with pleasure the launch of its website www. teaorb.com created as a Food & Beverage hybrid e-commerce marketplace for producers of tea from NE India, allowing them to collectively deliver their finest and freshest produce directly to consumers worldwide and fetch a better price, as there are no intermediaries, thus affecting their payment capacity for better wage to tea workers and access to programs and services to tackle climate change and offer tea tourism.

Apart from marketing and tourism, TeaOrb also will have a consulting wing to provide guidance to producers in scientific agricultural practice in tea cultivation both for organic and non-organic, modern manufacturing processes in factory, setting up of mini factory and marketing of the produce.

TeaOrb now has registered suppliers (small tea manufacturers) not only from all the tea growing districts of Assam but also from Arunachal Pradesh. Meghalaya will also be explored in due course, and other non traditional tea growing states like Nagaland.

It will be the endeavour to promote Hand Rolled teas, Dheki (mortar and pestle) teas and Phalap (the tea of the Singphos) apart from CTC, Orthodox, Oolong teas, both organic and non-organic.

The idea was to offer them remunerative prices for their teas to enable them to pay a higher wage to the workers than at present, to which one has to subscribe if they wished to participate in the venture.

One big producer has already signed agreement and two more have registered. The concept has not been shared with the organized sector in any formal manner as yet. The idea is to start small and later scale up gradually.

This venture requires huge capital toward digital marketing, infrastructure and operations. It was initially thought that crowd funding would be the best option, but like introduction of any innovative idea, it was difficult to bring about the required change in the mindset. The tech-savvy have understood the concept well. So with limited own resources (bootstrapping) we set about the task of getting started by obtaining the necessary licenses/registration from the authorities. TeaOrb is looking for investors.

As evidence of traction made in this regard -
    1) Total of 37 nos. of small tea manufacturers have registered and signed agreement.
    2) 1 large producer has registered and signed agreement.

Tea tasting on some of the samples sent by the small tea manufacturers was carried out through a leading tea broking house and reports are encouraging to say the least.

The organized sector includes more than 800 tea gardens in Assam. But the problem is mostly with the unorganized sector which goes unnoticed in the competition due to low visibility and other problems.

TeaOrb is trying to bridge the gap between the small tea growers, mostly known as the unorganized sector, to curb some of the major problems faced by them. So as to meet the increasing demand for pure organic tea the small tea growers are being encouraged to meet the supply ratio globally. It is like giving a shape to the unorganized sector. In other words TeaOrb is trying to create a niche market for every small tea manufacturer.

The primary channel of sale is known as the Auction for the organized sector. TeaOrb is acting as an additional channel of sale to the century's old industry and only those producers consistently fetching good price in the auction and organic small tea growers along with speciality tea manufacturers are being approached to showcase their produce on our platform.

Our products will also include spices like organic black pepper etc , grown by small tea farmers to supplement income.

Through our platform we not only connect our small tea farmers to the global market, but also provide an additional channel of sale to the organized sector.

This venture also upholds the essence of sustainability to address real issues affecting people and the environment (Better wage to disrupt Human Trafficking and improve living standards| Programs and services to tackle Climate Change and Improve health of tea workers)

The need for such a venture was strongly felt by the Assam Agricultural University (TH&T Dept) and the Tea Board, Zonal Office at Guwahati, and TeaOrb positioned itself to fill this need with the co-operation of all concerned including the Organic Small Tea Growers Association, Assam.

The co-founders of TeaOrb Services LLP are Mr. Jayanta Kakati, former Secretary of the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre and Mr. Bahniman Kakati having proficiency in digital marketing.
