  • Newark, NJ (1888PressRelease) June 04, 2009 - Headaches can be a pain the head as well as a pain in the pocketbook when you factor in both medical treatment and time off work. The 16th annual National Headache Awareness Week, June 7-13, is a perfect time to learn more about eliminating headaches.

    “Many of my patients come in complaining of headaches, from tension headaches to migraines,” said Livingston Chiropractic and Rehabilitation Center owner Dr. Santonastaso. “Proper chiropractic care can make a huge difference for headache sufferers, increasing their range of motion and greatly reducing head and neck tension.”

    Dr. Santonastaso also offers the following tips for preventing or coping with headaches:

    · Relieve head and neck tension by moving and stretching regularly, particularly if you sit in front of a computer for eight or more hours a day. Light exercise such as walking can also help pain associated with headaches.
    · Stay hydrated by drinking at least eight glasses of water a day and limiting alcohol, caffeine, and other dehydrating drinks.
    · Avoid foods with high salt and/or sugar content, which can trigger migraines. Red meat and dairy products can also cause be troublesome: Consider keeping a food diary to track what foods might trigger headache pain.
    · Avoid teeth clenching (unless swallowing), which can lead to tension headaches.
