  • Charlotte-Gastonia-Rock Hill, NC-SC (1888PressRelease) March 11, 2010 - Alex Beam and the staff at Memory Lane Museum began a tradition back in 2007 when they held the first Legends Helping Legends benefit to raise money for the late Bill Connell. The next two years brought benefits to assist veteran race drivers Sam Ard and recently deceased, "Suitcase" Jake Elder. It is nothing to see 50, 60, 70 or more drivers show up for these events to give their time signing autographs to benefit one of their brothers in need. Last year at the Jake Elder benefit The King (Richard Petty) himself made a surprise visit and stood there with the other veterans of the sport giving that famous signature to support the cause.

This year's event is a little different in that Rex is healthy and funds raised are not for him. Memory Lane Museum and RacersReunion.com have teamed up raise money for the "Racing Legends Medical / Hardship Fund". This fund was established almost two decades ago by the "Old Timer's Racing Club" to assist members of the racing community and their families in need. With the aging demographic of our pioneers of the sport coupled with a tough economy lately there have been more needs than funds. "The Old Timer's Racing Club has worked tirelessly over the past nineteen years to keep the Racing Legends Medical / Hardship fund going", said Jeff Gilder of RacersReunion.com. "Mike Sykes, Gary Lewallen, billy Biscoe, and that whole crew are a first class organization and we (RacersReunion) have decided to make their fund the beneficiary for all our events this year. There is not a more deserving cause in the racing community. We are very proud to be associated with the Old Timer's Racing Club, Memory Lane Museum, and the Legend Helping Legends benefit honoring one of the nicest people I've ever met, Mr. Rex White."

For the price of admission ($10.00) to the magnificent Memory Lane Museum attendees will be given the opportunity to receive autographs and speak with dozens of race drivers and other members of the NASCAR community. All proceeds will go the "Racing legends Medical / Hardship Fund". Weather permitting there will be a vintage race car display outside the museum. A huge turnout of drivers and fans is expected.
