  • (1888PressRelease) February 13, 2012 - Erie, PA -- Author Rich Bateman did not realize when he put the finishing touches on his autobiography, I Was Born This Way, that his audience would want more from him and more from his book. He released I Was Born This Way on December 7, 2011. He sold his book through media outlets such as Amazon and Barnes and Noble. A self-published author does not have the resources nor the "power" to make things happen such as getting their work out to the public. Bateman soon discovered the writing of the book was overall easy in comparison to effectively marketing his work.

Bateman's book sold as studies show for most self-published books, at least 100 copies[1] or so within the first month. Little did anyone, much less a corporation the magnitude of Barnes and Noble (who rejected Bateman's book proposal with a seemingly generic letter dated 01-31-2012), know but he had Lady Gaga as inspiration throughout the entire conception of his work. Bateman is still marketing today like a MONSTER, just as Lady Gaga marketed her rise to fame. Coincidence? Bateman had this to say about coincidence, "I believe there is no such thing as coincidence. I believe we are creators of our own destiny, whether we see that we ARE or NOT. I am creating my future today as I interview with you. My actions of today have reactions tomorrow. I realize this. I also KNOW with every fiber of my being one has to:

    1) Conceive it; 2) Believe it; 3) Achieve it!

If one does not conceive it and then believe it, they can never achieve what they desire to accomplish and become triumphant in their quest. I had no idea people would want more stories and details about my book, but my belief in my book confirmed this. I delivered and sales are beginning now on the newly revised second edition. We are definitely in the achieving mode right now! Not only has the all new Ricki Lake Show followed me and my book on Twitter, but I have had direct messages with them. I have been a fan of Ricki's since she was Traci Turnblad in the original Hairspray!" With The Ricki Lake Show poised to launch in September, maybe we will see Rich Bateman among the guests riding that wave of achieving it! "I look forward to it," Bateman concluded confidently with a smile the size of Lady Gaga's new Born This Way Ball stage. When asked about other accomplishments since the books original release date in December, Bateman shared, "we noticed other promotions Facebook pages offer, so we ran a weekend promotion through advertising on our Facebook and Twitter pages onlyand this resulted in selling well over 100 books just during that short time-frame. This really corroborated just how relevant the book is for the here and now TODAY." Bateman said he was also asked by WICU Channel 12 News Anchor, Vince Slomsky, to do a television interview that aired on New Years Eve, just prior to Lady Gaga's hot Time's Square performance, which included her hit 'Born This Way'. Bateman wanted to ensure everyone knew he is continuing to donate a generous 10% of proceeds from his book to Lady Gaga's Born This Way Foundation. When asked about Social Media, Bateman was pleased with his Likes and Followers. He said as of today he has over 3,100 Facebook Likes and over 1,600 Twitter followers, The Ricki Lake Show being one, he happily reminded us.
