QuoteJeffrey Cohen Predicts 3D Pill PrintingQuote
  • (1888PressRelease) February 08, 2016 - "We should expect printed pills soon," says the world-renowned private equity mogul, Jeffrey 'Optical' Cohen.

3D printers are not new to the world of technology and they have been used in various applications all over the world. However, the next big thing in the world of healthcare is expected to be the 3D pill printer according to Mr. Jeffrey Cohen. The futuristic speaker expressed his expectations while speaking at the Healthcare investment forum in New York City.

"The idea does not seem so farfetched when you think about how far we have come along in technology over the years. The healthcare system is already quite impressive in its current operations. Surgeons are performing brain surgery, putting pacemakers in the heart and much more. I would not be surprised if the 3D pill printer was launched tomorrow!" said Mr. Cohen.

It is no doubt that Mr. Jeffrey Cohen is correct with his predictions. Professor Lee Cronin, a renowned and respected researcher is already making headway in this technology along with a team of 45 researchers in Glasgow University, Scotland. The researcher is enthusiastic about being able to create a 3D printer that can 'print' prescription drugs based on downloadable chemistry.

According to Professor Cronin, "Nearly all drugs are made from Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen. These are combined with agents such as vegetable oil and paraffin. If we can develop the 3D printer with these different 'inks', it can be able to print almost any organic molecule when set to the correct formulation"

Creating easier and faster ways of producing medication can go a long way in improving the healthcare system all over the world. However, solving world problems is not easy. The 3D printer has to overcome quite a number of challenges before it is acceptable into the world of healthcare, especially the looming wars between the current controllers of supply lines for pharmaceuticals.

"Imagine the impact of a 3D printer on the current healthcare system. Many people often think of my futuristic investments as outrageous but current technology speaks for itself," Cohen reiterated during his talk.

Professor Cronin is hard at work trying to make this idea a reality by starting with the simplest drug in the market currents, ibuprofen. The researchers aim to create an application that can use computer technology to describe the formulation of specific ingredients or rather 'inks' for the printer to roll out.
