  • (1888PressRelease) January 23, 2010 - Datacraft, the region's leading independent IT solutions and services company, has participated and contributed successfully to complete the data centre upgrading project for Sumisho Computer Systems Corporation (SCS), Japan. The nextgeneration data centre solution will enhance the corporation's operational performance as well as its capacity for rapid expansion, particularly as the global economy begins to rebound.

SCS, a subsidiary of Japan's huge trading company, the Sumitomo Corporation, realised that its existing infrastructure needed a complete revamp to cope with rising traffic and to meet high service level guarantees for a rapidly expanding customer base. It also needed to accommodate the growth of value-added services to the company's data centre solution - netXDC.

"netXDC is one of our core operational focuses," said Kazuo Kobori of the IT Platform Solution Group, SCS. "netXDC is a powerful data centre which connects systems and networks seamlessly between servers and companies, enabling unified operation and high speed data transfer between mission-critical systems and internet-based front-end systems."

"We wanted to ensure the network backbone had the capacity to cope with increased demand with the launch of this solution, in terms of both storage and availability. In addition, it needed to accommodate future technology advancements as well as more customers."

Datacraft participated as an advisor to SCS and Sumisho Datacraft's joint project. Datacraft was tasked with designing and building the data centre upgrade as well as to provide on-going support to ensure a high level of operational performance. Datacraft deployed a range of products including Cisco's Nexus 7000 switches in two locations with two Nexus 5000s installed on one site. A server load balancer was also installed, incorporating security to ward off denial of service and other malicious attacks. To ensure smooth project management, Datacraft acted as the single contact point through its Primer project management services. This enabled Datacraft to engage the multiple vendors in the project seamlessly and to ensure quality control.

"We are delighted to support such an extensive data centre upgrade for our client, underlining Datacraft's capability to bring vast IT expansion projects to a swift and timely conclusion," said Hidetaka Kai, General Manager for Datacraft Japan. "Working closely with both Cisco and SCS, we were able to use our longstanding experience in deploying advanced Cisco solutions to implement this next-generation data centre solution. Our solution will serve to enhance SCS's business efficiency, operations and services to its customers, whilst paving the way for future expansion throughout all its operations."
