  • (1888PressRelease) December 21, 2007 - POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP) will release best practices on managing today’s global workforce in a special report this February.

“The global mobile workforce is expected to grow by more than 20 percent over the next four years, with millions of mobile workers toiling away on laptops, handhelds and cell phones,” said IAOP Executive Director Christina Powers. “Managing a global workforce and widely-distributed teams is perhaps one of the most tactically important aspects of today’s global companies.”

Areas to consider when managing a global workforce include: articulating clear goals for the onsite and offshore teams, planning communication management to bridge the onsite-offshore gap, developing trust between onsite and offshore teams, recognizing cultural differences, and handling information technology for mobile workers, according to IAOP.

“Managers and members of teams must learn to work with professionals and peers across geographic and cultural boundaries, separated by time and space,” she said. “As offshore outsourcing becomes more widespread, managers are beginning to pay greater attention to the unique aspects of managing geographically distributed, or virtual, teams.”

IAOP will share examples and case studies from its membership and thought leaders on this topic in a special advertising section in Fortune magazine in February 2008 and online at www.CNNMoney.com.

The section also will be released at the association’s annual conference, Outsourcing World Summit®, Feb. 18-20 in Orlando, Fla. and posted on the IAOP Knowledge Center, www.Firmbuilder.com®.
