  • (1888PressRelease) June 24, 2010 - Traditional media is in deep trouble. An ailing economy, added to the impact of the internet on the information system, caused the - not-so-slow - decline of mainstream media. Many magazines and newspapers are facing closure in the coming years, if not months. Everywhere staffs are being downsized, articles are created by cutting and pasting press releases or quotes found on the net. Photos are downloaded from some micro-stock agency site.

The news industry as we have known it is no longer sustainable, the usual dynamics of the current system are now quaking. Photography and journalism are facing a major turning point: what kind of future are we heading for?

Photographer and writer Enzo Dal Verme has been working in various field of the media industry for over twenty years, ten of which with the most prominent magazines. From the pages of his blog he explores new territories in today's storytelling. What are the new frontiers? Is this a catastrophe or a great opportunity to find a totally different business model and escape the current limits of the news industry?

There are a number of new scenarios emerging and several different opinions on the matter. Is multimedia the answer? Maybe crowdfunding? Are philanthropists the only way out, as some suggest? Do the new professional media people necessarily need to cultivate a host of True Fans in order to have their carrier supported? What other evolutionary scenarios are possible in the business?

Paradoxically, the crisis is helping people discover a wider range of possibilities. We list and explore some of them here, with links and explanations:
