  • (1888PressRelease) March 19, 2010 - La Grange Park IL - Hundreds of students from across the country are making plans to attend the nuclear science and technology industry's most important student event of the year, the American Nuclear Society (ANS) National Student Conference hosted by the University of Michigan Student Section of ANS. To be held April 8-11, the "Coming Together to Split the Atom" conference is the premier event for the young nuclear science and technology community, and sheds light on the latest developments in nuclear science and engineering.

When asked about the conference, ANS President Tom Sanders said, "We're expecting a record number of the best and brightest minds in nuclear science and technology to gather at this conference to learn about new advances in our industry, attend workshops, tour facilities and network with other professionals. It's obvious that these young professionals are excited to be learning about nuclear science and technology and will be a part of the industry's future."

These students are the future industry work force and 30 of the nuclear science and technology industry's most prominent companies along with ten universities will exhibit in a two-day Career Exhibit. The conference includes workshops on nuclear science and technology applications that range from aerospace, biology and medicine to environmental science, nonproliferation, and commercial nuclear operations and power.

Added John (Jack) M. Tuohy, Jr., P.E., ANS Executive Director, "As part of the conference students from around the world present their own cutting edge research and compete for awards. The presentations showcase the abilities of our industry's most talented and brilliant young minds who will be a part of the industry's next generation of leaders."

"This year we expect to break new attendance records with more than 500 attendees," said conference General Chair and graduate student Michaela Eddy. "With the help and support of our corporate sponsors we've created an exciting and powerful event. The caliber of the program is really resonating with the attendees who don't want to miss what promises to be an exceptional program," she concluded.
