  • (1888PressRelease) October 04, 2016 - Marshfield, Mass. - In an era when readers everywhere are struggling to find answers to life's most vexing questions, Heidi Martin leads readers on a page-turning quest for deeper truth and meaning. In her new novel, The Refuge, the characters grapple with career success, personal tragedy, unfulfilled ambition, a broken home, alcoholism and the life-altering beauty and ancient mystical power of spiritual self-discovery.

Anna Waters, the central character, is the youngest partner at a Boston law firm. But despite her success, she feels her life spinning out of control after a tragic accident takes the life of her unborn child. Long hours at work, disconnection from friends and a troubled marriage soon take their toll, and Anna finds herself divorced, jobless and alone. Rather than giving up, however, she is inspired one night by a strange and vivid dream and wakes up ready to take dramatic, life-changing steps. Leaving behind everything that is familiar to her, she sets off for rural South Carolina on a profound journey in search of herself. There she meets Clark, who is grappling with his own grief, and is introduced to the adorable young girl Lucita, who steals her heart and heals her unfulfilled yearning for a daughter of her own.

Martin weaves a powerfully engaging story about love, self-acceptance and the eternal quest to find solace and fulfillment in the wake of pain and loss. Along the way, she illuminates for readers the most mysterious place of all, the inner self, where the individual soul burns with desire for genuine spiritual transformation.

"When writing the book, I was in a time of reflection and change," explained Martin. "Although the book is fiction, I feel that I am also sharing some insight which will help others explore themselves, their spirituality and growth."

The Refuge is now available for purchase through SDP Publishing and at all major bookstores, including online retailers Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
