  • Atlanta, GA (1888PressRelease) September 28, 2011 - The Village, a new, apartment-style housing community for upperclassmen at Young Harris College, is Hardin Construction Company's latest contribution to campus growth at the private, liberal arts college in the foothills of North Georgia.

The Village may also become Hardin's third LEED certified project at Young Harris.

Hardin Construction was the design-build contractor for The Village, a recently completed complex of eight, 6,000- to 7,000-square-foot cottages, which added 148 beds in time for the college's 2011-2012 school year.

Young Harris College is pursuing ambitious facilities expansion in support of the college's recent transition to a four-year school. A second phase of The Village planned to start this fall will provide an additional 108 beds.

    LEED x 3
The Village is designed and constructed to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards and is expected to earn a minimum of LEED certification. Two former Hardin projects at Young Harris College also are LEED certified-the 200-bed LEED Silver-certified Enotah Hall residential facility and the 57,000-square-foot Recreation and Fitness Center, which earned LEED Certified status.

The Village features cottages configured in four-bedroom suites, each with a kitchen with full appliances, washer and dryer, cellular enhancement, and wireless Internet access. The complex includes common green spaces, recreational courts and outdoor grilling areas, as well as expansive porch areas with each building.
The architect of record is Lord, Aeck & Sargent, Inc.
