  • (1888PressRelease) June 24, 2010 - ATLANTA - The Associated Builders and Contractors of Georgia, Inc. (ABC) twice recognized Hardin Construction Company at ABC's recent 2010 Safety Awards luncheon, which annually salutes companies for outstanding safety programs and performance.
Hardin received an ABC Platinum STEP (Safety Training and Evaluation Process) Award for effective safety practices, based on 20 key elements of contractor safety programs, including management commitment, safety responsibilities of personnel, and budget. Platinum is the highest of three STEP Award categories.

Hardin was also among the recipients of the Georgia Safety Awards of Excellence. To achieve this award, companies must have had no employee fatalities, and they must have achieved better than the national averages in rates of total recordable incidents and in lost time due to job-related injuries.

"It's an honor to be recognized by ABC, which does so much to emphasize safety in our industry and to recognize companies that meet the highest safety standards," said Hardin President Bill Pinto. "I congratulate our associates and project teams who go out every day and fulfill Hardin's commitment to safety."

ABC of Georgia represents more than 300 commercial and industrial contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and service firms, representing more than 15,00 employees. Each year, ABC recognizes member companies that demonstrated outstanding safety performance the previous year. The ABC Georgia 2010 Safety Awards luncheon was held in Atlanta.

Hardin Construction Company is consistently recognized nationally for its safety performance. Most recently, Hardin was assigned an Experience Modification Rate-or EMR-of 0.60. EMR is used to determine what a company pays for workers' compensation premiums, based on the company's recent claims history. With an EMR of 1 considered average, the 0.60 EMR indicates that Hardin's safety performance is nearly twice as good as the national average.
