  • (1888PressRelease) September 17, 2009 - Logan, UT - It may seem counterintuitive to start a new business during a recession. Of course, many companies are folding and unemployment rates are soaring. However, Chem-Dry — a recession-resistant carpet cleaning service company — is bucking this trend and encouraging people to start their own business with new lowered down payment price of $8,495 and 0% interest financing.

Chem-Dry, a division of The Home Depot, is the world’s largest carpet and upholstery cleaning company with more than 4,000 franchises in 43 countries. About 2,500 of these franchises are in the United States.

So, why is a carpet cleaning company a wise and recession-proof investment? Chem-Dry Vice President of Franchise Sales Bill Knight suggests there are three main reasons: low cost, name recognition and a franchisor that will bend over backwards to help the franchisee.

    Low cost
“At less than $8,500 down, Chem-Dry is a low-cost investment that almost anyone can get into,” Knight said. “Plus we provide our own in-house zero-percent financing for the remainder of the franchise price, which is a huge deal in today’s tight credit markets.”

He said Chem-Dry requires a down payment of $8,495 and will finance the remaining balance of $20,555 at zero interest for 56 months, with the first payment due four months after the business is started. He added that a franchisee will also need to buy or lease a van and get a home office setup with phone lines, a computer, required insurances and business licenses.

    Name recognition
Chem-Dry has been named No. 1 in its industry for 19 consecutive years by Entrepreneur Magazine. And with thousands of franchises across the world, it’s a name that is easily recognized.

“Chem-Dry is the number one brand in its category and has been for years,” Knight said. “It is a household name and the franchisees’ marketing partner is The Home Depot, the second-largest retailer in the world.”

Sean Tinsley of Chem-Dry of Nashville said the partnership with The Home Depot has been a boon for business.

“Being a partner with The Home Depot is the biggest thing that has ever happened to take us to the next level,” Tinsley said. “It’s great because once you walk into The Home Depot stores and meet the managers you realize you’re all on the same team.”

    Caring franchisor
Tom Grissom of Doral, Fla., started his Chem-Dry franchise in May. He said he was most impressed at how much care Chem-Dry showed for him.

“I looked at other franchises, but this one cared a lot,” Grissom said. “Every time I called, everybody was willing to bend over backwards and talk with me. Everybody was knowledgeable and it felt like a family atmosphere. The Chem-Dry system seemed to work.”

Brent Phelps, owner of Empire Chem-Dry in Washington, seconded Grissom’s statement.

“If you buy a Chem-Dry franchise you already have a network in place that will bend over backwards to help you in any way possible,” Phelps said.

Knight said Chem-Dry is involved from the time of recruiting the franchisees, to getting them started with world-class training at the corporate training facility in Logan, Utah,

“We take the success of our franchisees very seriously,” Knight said.
