  • Memphis, TN-AR-MS (1888PressRelease) July 31, 2007 - Memphis Sound Entertainment has been selected among bidders to supply all entertainment and production services to the first annual River Arts Fest, to be held in October 26, 27, and 28 in Downtown Memphis, Tennessee.

Billed as "A Celebration of the Visual, Performing and Culinary Arts On Historic South Main," the River Arts Fest will feature an Artist Market, Juried Art Exhibition, Invitational Art Exhibit, Live Memphis Music, Dance, and percussionists, along with A Taste of South Main. Memphis Sound Entertainment will provide all stage systems, sound systems, lighting systems, operators, engineers, and technical personnel for successful production of the festival.

Woody Degan, Operations Director, Producer, and Engineer for Memphis Sound Entertainment, is very excited about the opportunity that this new festival brings. "Since the demise of the Arts In The Park Festival a few years ago, there has been a void in the community that is being directly answered by the creation of the River Arts Fest! And what better place to host the festival than the South Main Historic District, where the artistic and restaurant communities are already thriving, flourishing, and making a name for themselves! With a backdrop of art galleries, shops, restaurants, pubs, and more, the River Arts Fest has a lot of promise here. What a great fit - and great vision."

Degan himself was the Operations Director for the old Arts In The Park Festival in 1999 and 2000, responsible for managing every aspect of the festival from design and layout to ordering, inventory to placement, set-up, management, and take-down. Under Degan's direction, 1999 and 2000 were two of the most successful years that the Arts In The Park festival experienced in over two decades. "It was a great challenge - managing 26 committees - and very rewarding, but the project had some inherent pressures and limitations that it ultimately succumbed to. I saw the writing on the wall. The River Arts Fest has a natural backdrop of support in the art gallery, shopping, and restaurant infrastructure that should serve it very well. It should be immune to those pressures."

As for the festival management, Degan states, "I wouldn't be a part of this if I didn't think it was going in the right direction. The River Arts Festival is organized and administrated by some of the mid-south's most experienced and long-time festival coordinators - many experienced with the Arts In The Park festival, as I was, so this event promises to be a well-conceived, well-planned, and well-coordinated event. They may say they are volunteers, but, trust me, they know what they're doing."

In addition to his production and engineering duties, Degan will also be performing with Memphis Premiere Female Vocalist Award Winner Jackie Johnson as part of the Memphis Sound Band, which has been selected as the headline entertainment for the event.
