(1888PressRelease) November 23, 2011 - Florida-based Essential Care Group has signed a deal to acquire most of the assets and liabilities of SimpleCare Health Plan, which has commercial, Expat enrollees through out Spain.

Essential Care Group was created in 2011 with the purpose of purchasing and merging existing international health-care providers.

Lopez didn't disclose the price of the purchase, but said it was "the first of several moves in the next couple years" that he plans to make for his new company, Essential Care Group, eventually expanding beyond Spain's borders.

"Part of the challenge is to expand Essential Care Group," he said. "We will bring very experienced management and make operational changes to address what the International market needs."
Lopez said he "couldn't even begin to speculate" on whether the SimpleCare Health Plan would continue to be marketed under its own name, but "we are very conscious" of SimpleCare's successful operations these past four years, and "we want to be very careful not to disrupt that."

The benefits and provider network at SimpleCare Health Plan will remain the same, Lopez said. He hopes to increase its negotiating power with hospitals by purchasing and merging more HMOs into it. He noted that SimpleCare Health Plan has offices in Marbella and Torremolinos, and it plans to expand coverage in Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona as well.
