(1888PressRelease) July 05, 2009 - DAVENPORT, IA - Ekornes®, a Norwegian manufacturer of upholstered furniture is continuing the celebration of 75 years of furniture manufacturing this summer by offering special discounts on several of their leading models as well as offering a "free" giveaway of Stressless® swing tables with new Stressless recliner purchases from July 1 through September 7, 2009. Special discounts are being offered on the following models in the United States. Stressless® Consul chair & ottomans will be marked down this summer to $995 throughout the United States in select batick leather colors including caramel, black and cream in the customers choice of wood base finish. The Stressless® Consul is considered a medium size recliner.

Stressless® Ambassador chair & ottomans will be marked down this summer to $1195 throughout the United States in select batick leather colors including caramel, black and cream again with the customers choice of wood base finish. The Stressless® Ambassador is considered a large size recliner and will fit most people.

Also this summer customers can enjoy with the purchase of a new Stressless® recliner a free swing table ($150 value) from July 1st through September 7th . The Stressless® swing table provides a great use of space by giving you a place for a remote, a drink or anything else you need close by. These tables are available in the seven matching finishes for Ekornes® Stressless® recliner wood bases which will create a seamless look.

LifeStyles Furniture in Davenport, IA will also be continuing to help distribute discontinued closeout models such as Stressless® Admirals, Stressless Commodores and 2008 Stressless® Royals being offered at $400 off MRP pricing. These recliners with matching ottomans will continue to be available as closeouts until they are sold out. Ekornes® North America was overstocked on these models and discovered there was too much inventory ahead of the 2009 models. It was decided to close these out with an authorized factory discount.

These specials come from a celebration of 75 years of Ekornes®. Back in 1934, Jens E. Ekornes ran a small machine shop in Sunmore, Norway with himself and several workers producing steel spring components for mattress manufacturers. After WW2 he would turn his interests in building mattress components into creating his own line of mattresses. Jens Ekornes would travel to the United States to study American assembly line methods as well as mattress manufacturing. Jens Ekornes would bring back machinery and technicians to help his factory in becoming more modern and this would establish a pattern with the company in that its developing modern technology into production methods.

In the 1950's Jens Ekornes would begin work on building furniture components for upholstery furniture manufacturers. Much of this early work involved working with foamed plastics which would help move Ekornes forward into the development of their own line of early club furniture. Jens Ekornes would eventually send out a national mailer to every home in Norway that introduced his new line of furniture and soon made Ekornes a household name as well as helping to establish a network of furniture dealers who could help distribute this new line of Scandinavian furniture.

Ekornes® would continue to be successful up into the 1970's when they would change what it meant to be a recliner. In 1971 they would introduce the Stressless® recliner. A patented recliner which would feature a universally different approach to recline using a roller system built on a steel frame to facilitate reclining. Additional patented features over the years would include a revolutionary new lumbar system for lower back support and a plus system which allowed the chair and headrest to move with the user keeping them eye level with a tv or book even when reclined. These innovations would find their way into Ekornes® furniture which would soon add Stressless® furniture lines of matching sofas, loveseats, chairs and sectionals with all of the same features.

Today Ekornes® continues to offer quality made furniture using the most revolutionary technology to create each component and covering that goes into each piece of furniture. Ekornes® is sold in over 30 countries world wide across 5 continents globally.
