  • (1888PressRelease) January 25, 2009 - Ecolink Products Group Inc. announces the launch of ECO Foam a cartridge based fire retardant spray foam. Ecolink has developed fire-retardant foam for the do-it-yourself market. ECO foam is offered in 1500-milliliter cartridges that can be sprayed with using Ecolink’s line of dual component guns. The fire-retardant spray foam sealant is the latest addition to Ecolink’s growing line of highly engineered cartridge products.

ECO Foam is a class one rated fire retardant foam with a Flame Spread of 25 and a Smoke Density of 350 as rated under the ASTM E84 Standard. We chose to make it fire retardant to meet building codes requiring non-combustible construction and afford homeowners the fire retardant protection needed when the foam is not covered with a thermal barrier. We wanted foam that would self-extinguish when a direct flame is removed.

We had our foam tested for thermal transmission using a heat flow meter apparatus. The heat flow meter apparatus is used widely because it is relatively simple in concept, rapid, and applicable to a wide range of test specimens. The heat flow meter apparatus is an excellent way to establish the amount of heat flux through the foam at different temperatures and to calculate thermal resistance and thermal conductivity.

We chose this method because it allows testing of a wide range of environmental conditions. The method has been used at ambient conditions of 10 to 40°C with thicknesses up to approximately 250 mm, and with plate temperatures from −195°C to 540°C at 25-mm thickness.
The thermal resistance of ECO Foam is 24 almost two and one-half times needed to pass the test.

Tough economic times require homeowners a safe way to take control of their energy costs. We developed ECO Foam to provide a simple and easy way for homeowners to take control of their home environment by reducing energy usage and improving occupancy comfort. ECO Foam is closed-cell foam with an R-value over 6. We also wanted to provide a proven system recognized by International Building Codes.

We developed ECO Foam to allow homeowners and small contractors to renovate and restore areas of their home using fire retardant foam. Eliminating uncontrolled air leakage and improving indoor air quality while making homes energy efficiency will extend the life of the home. When looking save energy costs stopping drafts and adding insulation is the first choice of homeowners. We are trying to provide homeowners with a low cost way to stops drafts and remove cold spots, inconsistent temperatures and fluctuating humidity levels. We wanted to do our part for the one million acts of green. Sealing gaps, holes and penetrations, preventing ice damming, spalling, mold, and moisture damage is our way to contribute to one million acts of green.

Application of Ecolink’s cartridge based ECO Foam sealant is done by inserting the cartridge into Ecolink’s dual component pneumatic spray gun system, pointing and pulling the trigger. The Ecolink pneumatic gun is user friendly and requires only a simple 10CFM at 100PSI air compressor: no electricity or heat is required. When the trigger is pulled, ECO Foam is pushed through a static mixing tube, which mixes the two sides of the material and the foam is created. Air is added at the end of the static mixing tube so the user can direct the spray to the controlled area the user wishes to apply the product to. When ECO Foam hits the surface, it instantly starts to expand 30 times its volume making a closed cell, insulated seal. The person spraying can apply any desired thickness. When the cartridge is empty, simply turn off the gun and replace it with another cartridge. The plastic cartridges are recyclable but users should check with their local ordnances for any limitations.
