  • (1888PressRelease) April 09, 2009 - Machias-- Down East Community Hospital has learned that they will remain on the Preferred Hospital list for Maine State Employees. The hospital remains on the list by having met certain state and federal standards.

The practical effect of the listing is that current and former state employees and their families can receive medical care at Down East Community Hospital without being charged a deductible.

The Maine Division of Employee Health and Benefits compiles the list twice a year. The hospitals attain the ratings if they meet standards on care such as treating heart attacks, heat failures, pneumonia, surgical infections, medication safety and patient satisfaction.

Down East Community Hospital first made the list in January of 2007.
