  • (1888PressRelease) March 03, 2010 - Logan, UT - What is better for the environment often translates into also being better for the home; so appears to be the thinking of many Green-minded individuals. It is becoming more common for fans of Green living to scope out products or services before purchasing them to ensure they are up to Green standards.

While the idea of purchasing items that are good for the environment is not a new concept, the importance of bringing Green into the home is growing in popularity, said Tiffany Peck, a self-proclaimed Green fanatic from Orem, Utah.

"I always make purchasing decisions based on the Green factor. I spend time investigating companies to see what kind of practices they have," Peck said. "That matters to me, whether or not (companies) are making efforts to be green.

Peck said she often researches products before purchasing them, and has made major changes in her buying habits based entirely on that factor. Finding eco-friendly household cleaners that maintain effectiveness requires extra time and attention to discover those that work well.

"Sometimes I buy these products just for the peace of mind, but other times you can see a genuine impact on the environment," she said.

While extra time and elbow grease can clean a fair amount of everyday household messes, some things just can't be cleaned without professional help. Deep carpet cleaning, for instance, can require trained technicians who have specific solutions and high powered machines to extract dirt and grime from the base of a carpet-much more than vacuuming, said Ed Durant, PhD, chemist at Chem-Dry, the world's largest carpet cleaning company.

However, many carpet cleaners must use harsh chemicals and excessive amounts of water to get the job done, creating a divide between them and the growing population of Green-minded consumers. As well, many of the carpet cleaners who do offer an all-Green cleaning charge higher prices for a less effective service. With this in mind, Durant and his team set out to develop a comprehensive Green cleaning system that doesn't sacrifice effectiveness.

"Chem-Dry uses what is called The Natural, a carbonating based solution that requires us to use a fraction of the water and chemicals, and still maintains effectiveness," Durant said. The Natural, which has received the Carpet and Rug Institute's (CRI) seal of approval, has been used in homes for more than 20 years.

For this reason, many people are choosing to go with Chem-Dry as their Green carpet cleaner, said Gene Quintana, a Chem-Dry franchise owner from San Antonio, Texas.

"Nearly every other call is someone asking for our Green carpet cleaning services; everyone is asking for it," Quintana said. "Consumers with kids and pets don't want harsh chemicals on their carpets, so everything is going toward Green."

Quintana said being able to offer a Green service is extremely important. While not every consumer makes their decisions based solely on the Green factor, it is apparent many consumers prefer it; and those who weren't aware of the service before are happy to have it.

According to the CRI more people are concerned about making their indoor environments as healthy and Green-friendly as possible. In that light, many institutions have begun moving toward a Greener way of conducting business.

Chem-Dry's unique carpet cleaning process and flagship solution, The Natural, were certified Green last year by ITC Labs. In addition, Chem-Dry has just released a new line of products including The Sanitizer, Prespray, and Protectant which allow for a deeper, Greener clean.

With spring cleaning just around the corner, now is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of Chem-Dry's ultra Green cleaning. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 1-800-CHEM-DRY or visit: please visit chemdry.com/green.
