  • (1888PressRelease) November 21, 2013 - New York: Christ House, the New York based program for aid and assistance to asylum seekers, has announced the commencement of its capital campaign. In outlining the new fundraising plans, William J. Hallenbeck, the organization's president noted: "Christ House, now in its 30th year of service, has established a capital improvement program to support the renovation and expansion of its facilities. We have determined that this is a particularly opportune time to address our capital needs, and we have designed a multifaceted campaign to accomplish our objectives."

    As it launched its fundraising campaign, Christ House also announced its initial capital contribution from the Debra Petrides Lyons. In accepting the grant, Mr. Hallenbeck stated "Christ House is most pleased to receive a substantial grant from Ms. Debra Petrides Lyons, which will provide funding to underwrite needed capital improvements and renovation work, and significantly improve the accommodations available to our residents. Additionally, we are most gratified to announce that Ms. Petrides Lyons has agreed to assist with our capital raising efforts by serving as chair of our funding raising committee."

    A resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Ms. Petrides Lyons is a supporter of numerous charitable causes, ranging from education, international relations and the performing arts. Ms. Petrides Lyons has served on the board of the New Mexico Natural History Museum, and is curator of a private collection on USA/Mexico Border History. She has also supported and participated in various exchanges, developments and liaison activities on cultural, infrastructure and political associations such as the Five Mtns Foundation, Aids Alliance and Animal Protection of New Mexico.

    Ms. Debra Petrides Lyons issued the following statement: "It is with great pleasure that I provide the initial grant to the Christ House Capital Fund. Throughout its 30 year history, Christ House has been able to assist unfortunate individuals fleeing persecution in search of safety, liberty and freedom. As the number of displaced and stateless persons continues to increase worldwide, it is critical that unique support programs such as that operated by Christ House be able to thrive and expand. I am most pleased to provide resources to assist this effort."

    Christ House fund raising activities are being coordinated by the Christ House Capital Fund. Ms. Petrides Lyons has agreed to serve as Chair of the organization's Capital Fund Committee.

    Mr. Hallenback added: "As it enters its third decade of service, Christ House remains committed to working diligently to provide humanitarian assistance and support serving people, who find themselves displaced by conflict and crisis. Our primary goal remains working with the immigrant population to ease the transition to their new homeland. We seek to make the process more manageable, as we help our residents learn the language, secure employment, adjust to a new culture, and fundamentally become self-sufficient."
