  • (1888PressRelease) December 29, 2009 - China's Growth Enterprise Market has been operational in Hong Kong for several months now, and recently a similar market was inaugurated in Shenzhen, in southern China. Zetland Corporate Services, a leading global investment management service, sees this new opportunity as a challenge in disguise for investors.

The Growth Enterprise Market in China is for growth companies, that do not fulfill traditional requirements of profitability or track record for listing on the ordinary stock exchange of Shenzhen. It's sister market in Hong Kong explicitly states that they are a 'buyer beware' market, offering investors "an alternative of investing in "high growth, high risk" businesses", according to their website.

"There is enormous potential for offshore investment businesses to profit from this alternative stock exchange", said Jason Weatherhead of Zetland Corporate Services. "We strongly recommend that investors, even experienced ones, seek a second opinion when investing into growth markets like the GEM. As skilled investment management services, Zetland offices are in an ideal position to advice on these matters".

Issuers of share capital on China's GEM must have either:

    • Cumulative net profits in the preceding two years of at least 10 million yuan and growing.

    • Or net profits in the most recent year must be at least 5 million yuan, with total revenues of at least 50 million yuan, and revenue growth of at least 30% in the past two years.

Mr. Weatherhead says that the GEM is "desperately needed in China, to shift the focus of enterprise from exporting to technology and innovation. From an investor's point of view, though, the capital raised by each company on the GEM does not take operating budget into account. This is why expert advice is so critical".
