  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) April 26, 2008 - Douglas Castle, Advisor to the Board of the CHILDREN's INTERNATIONAL OBESITY FOUNDATION (CIOF) announced today that the CIOF was joining forces with several other organizations, including the NATIONAL NETWORKER, INTERNAL ENERGY PLUS, and the NYC POLICE ATHLETIC LEAGUE to sponsor a public service site, called "LIFE LINKS" (http://LifeLinksIEP.blogspot.com) which will offer the American Public a listing of national resources to deal with a variety of problems, including those related to physical and psychological health, financial crises, homelessness, elderly issues and the special problems being faced by our soldiers returning from Iraq.

Castle said, "Although our principal focus is on combating the growing epidemic of overweight and obesity in children throughout the world, we cannot ignore our responsibility, as a humanitarian organization, to help others in need. These are very difficult times for many people...the sick, the elderly, our children, our veterans. Every tax-exempt humanitarian services organization, whether it is public or private, has a moral imperative to help its brother and sister organizations in their efforts to improve the state of human affairs. Not to do so would be the height of hypocrisy.

"It amazes me to think that one in every three children is either dangerously overweight or obese. In the United States, our kids actually have a lower life expectancy than we do. In a country that prides itself on having one of the best healthcare delivery systems in the world, this is an outrage. But I think that it is equally shameful when we are forced to acknowledge the fact that one in four of America's homeless persons are a veteran, a person who put his or her life on the line to protect the freedoms that we enjoy. Our Foundation has targeted childhood obesity, but we cannot forget, not for a minute, that our principal business is humanity.

The public can access LIFE LINKS at http://LifeLinksIEP.blogspot.com . Gifts can be made to CIOF at www.ciofoundation.org.
