  • (1888PressRelease) April 30, 2009 - MegaIce, Hong Kong's only international sized ice rink, recently completed several courses of figure skating and ice hockey summer camps for youngsters which made an enormous impact on the sports stars of tomorrow for Hong Kong.

Keith Fong, MegaIce's deputy general manager, said that the events were extremely well-attended, and both children and parents alike were thrilled with what the kids learnt.

"The figure skating camps saw kids from 3 to 6 learning how to balance and stand on skates, march and move, and even how to fall, which they always love! More advanced tots were learning basic moves like forward and backward swizzles, snowplow stops and push and glides", Mr. Fong said.

Children at the ice hockey camp in Hong Kong learnt balance and agility on the ice, the forward stride, crossovers, stopping techniques and basic backward skating, as well as power skating and puck control.

There are also light-hearted competitions and games for both the hockey and figure skating students.

"We had some excellent students, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the kids come back to start private tuition in figure skating or to join the Penguins Ice Hockey Club at MegaIce", Mr. Fong continued.

The camps were based on the summer 2008 figure skating and ice hockey camps. Each camp had students in the 3-6 age group, and the 7-12 age group. The camps were held from April 8 to April 15 this year, and are only during weekdays.

The Easter figure skating camps this year had 4-day and 6-day options, while the ice hockey camp in Hong Kong had 2-day and 6-day options. Keith Fong said that every camp had very pleasing attendance, "but the best part was seeing the thrill the kids obviously get from learning something new".

"We often repeat these camps throughout the year, so interested parents should keep an eye out for more details", said Mr. Fong.
