  • San Francisco, CA (1888PressRelease) March 19, 2010 - Center for Sustainable Change (CSC), a Palo Alto-based non-profit that focuses on teaching simple principles that govern innate mental health, invites the public to a free special event 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 30 at the Palo Alto Family YMCA.

"Growing Mental Health & Resiliency for Parents & Teens" will explore how people can engage their own innate resilience -- the human capacity for learning, creativity, and compassion - and what gets in the way of the process.

Presenter Ami Chen Mills-Naim, CSC Executive Director, will share how people can transform depression and despair into an understanding that we alone create our emotional realities, that our "default" as humans is peace and mental health, and that we are connected to something greater than our limited, personal thoughts.

"Resiliency is not a mystery. Resiliency comes from within each of us - it is a quality of thinking that encompasses hope, gratitude, creativity and insight," said Mills-Naim. "When we know it is inside of us, we can tap it with more consistency."

Mills-Naim is nationally known speaker and trainer in the field of Principles-based psychology who has worked with families and adolescents for more than 20 years. Author of "The Spark Inside: A Special Book for Youth," currently in its third reprint, Mills-Naim is also director of the National Community Resiliency Project, in partnership with the W.K. Kellogg Foundation that serves socioeconomically stressed communities across the globe.

Following this free March 30 program, open to the public, CSC will offer a six-part series, "Spiritual Fitness," on Thursday evenings April 8 to May 13 at the Palo Alto Family YMCA for individuals who wish to increase their understanding. Mills-Naim will take a reflective dive into the 3 Principles of Mind, Consciousness & Thought and how our understanding of these principles leads to increased peace of mind, harmony, communication, efficiency and well-being. Teenagers 13 and over are welcome. Registration through the YMCA only; call (650) 856-9622.
