  • (1888PressRelease) October 18, 2011 - Sharon Isbin was born in Minneapolis and began her guitar studies at age nine in Italy, and later studied with Andrès Segovia and Oscar Ghiglia. She received a B.A. cum laude from Yale University and a Master of Music from the Yale School of Music. She is the Director of guitar departments at the Aspen Music Festival and The Juilliard School. Isbin is the founder of Juilliard's guitar department. In 1989, she created the master of music degree, graduate diploma and artist diploma, and in 2007, added the bachelor of music degree and undergraduate diploma.

    Sharon Isbin has never limited herself to any one particular music genre, and that's a providential thing for music lovers of all tastes. Her eclecticism has produced a lot of spectacular music.Her latest effort, Sharon Isbin & Friends:Guitar Passions, on which she joins with some of her guitar-playing buddies in a kind of honor to the guitar, is just one more pleasurable expression of the woman's enviable range. It is a recording, she explains in the liner notes, in which "I pay tribute to my guitar heroes, artists that I admire from the classical, rock and jazz worlds ... It is our shared passion for the guitar and for musical discovery that brings us together."
