  • (1888PressRelease) October 25, 2011 - New York, NY - Retired Intrepid President and current Chairman and CEO of Constellations Group, Bill White, was recently a guest on the Don Imus show where Imus and he discussed how the Intrepid decided to donate their American flag to hang above Ground Zero after 9/11; today, that flag, a symbolic piece of our nation's history, cannot be found, its missing.

Bill White told the story of how three days after the attacks, he and the rest of Intrepid decided to change the view of Ground Zero by hanging one of the largest American flags in the United States above the rubble of what was once the World Trade Center. The goal of Bill White and Intrepid was to help those grieving from the losses of 9/11 and to change the view of what Usama Bin Laden would see on his television; instead of the destruction and chaos left behind from his acts of evil; UBL and his fellow evil do-ers would instead see an American flag hanging positively and steadfastly above Ground Zero. That flag ended up in most of the television or still photos. It could not be mistaken for the resolve we as a country had, White said.

Bill White shared with Imus the story of how three days after the September 11th attacks, at approximately midnight, he and Intrepid personnel transported the massive flag by truck, a flag previously placed on the Intrepid flight deck for Fleet Week Memorial Day services, to the center of our nation's financial district. Bill White worked with New York's three star FDNY Chief to enlist the help of about 15 firemen and a variety of engineers from Brookfield Properties, owners of the World Financial Center, who worked together tirelessly to raise the enormous American flag up above Ground Zero and change the world's view this tragedy.

Bill White, who currently serves as Chairman and CEO of Constellations Group, also noted that the flag is nowhere to be found and believes it may have been removed in an act of preservation, as the flag had likely been torn while it hung among the devastation. Bill White, a dedicated supporter of our nation, her history and our nation's military personnel, veterans and their families, is on a mission to find the flag in the hopes that it will be donated to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center Foundation, Inc.
