Award-Winning camping and caravan site switches to renewable energy

  • (1888PressRelease) February 15, 2014 - A Devon-based camping and touring Caravan Park has recently launched its own eco-friendly sustainable heat centre. The centre was born when the team at Stowford Farm Meadows decided to look for new ways to reduce the site's carbon emissions. Using renewable energy for hot water and heating, Stowford has invested in woodchip biomass boilers that allow wood to be used as fuel instead of oil. Stowford hope that the new centre will enable them to make a significant positive contribution to the wider world.

The Stowford team dug trenches and laid pipes in order to connect the new boilers to various buildings on the site. Electric heaters were also removed and replaced with radiators. To prevent heat being lost through toilet block doors, new lobbies have been built with more to follow by Easter this year. Whilst the boilers have already been connected to the various toilet blocks and the caravan sales department, further connections are to be made to the site's bars, restaurant and its many other facilities. This will be implemented by the end of the summer.

The site's reliance on oil and liquid petroleum gas will be virtually diminished by the end of 2014. A spokesperson for Stowford said that the move showed just how dedicated the company was to reducing its carbon footprint.

"As we learn more about climate change, it is essential that we all do as much as we can to reduce emissions, and we are already working on new projects that will make us even more energy-efficient"

Stowford Farm Meadows has been attracting campers and caravan owners for more than 35 years. The 500-acre site offers vast rural landscapes, with its woodland and green meadows having made it one of the most consistently-popular sites of its ilk in the UK. The site has won various industry awards and features a diverse range of facilities designed to appeal to people of all ages, from all walks of life.

Stowford is also the home of a caravan storage facility, which is used by multiple returning customers. New and pre-owned caravans can also be purchased at its caravan centre, as can motor-homes. The site has also been given the David Bellamy Gold Award for conservation.
