  • Atlanta, GA (1888PressRelease) April 08, 2010 - When it comes to Mother's Day, Atlanta moms report that what they really want this year is to spend their day outdoors and/or enjoying a meal that someone else prepared for them. Oh Baby! Fitness, Atlanta's only prenatal and postnatal fitness experience surveyed 275 moms (and moms-to-be) about the annual holiday in their honor. Plus, in celebration of Atlanta moms, Oh Baby! Fitness is giving the gift of fitness with free classes on May 8 and 9.

"Helping moms exercise safely in the company of fellow moms during pregnancy and after giving birth is what Oh Baby! Fitness is all about," says Clare Schexnyder, Atlanta mom, owner and co-founder of Oh Baby! Fitness. "In five years, we've helped more than 7,000 Atlanta moms incorporate prenatal and postnatal fitness into their lives, and fostered a community of support. This survey is just another way to keep the conversation going with Atlanta moms, this time about what makes Mother's Day special."

The Oh Baby! Fitness electronic survey found that 76% of surveyed moms expect to spend the day, at minimum, with their spouse/partner and child(ren); another 18% of moms expect to also celebrate with their mom. Where would Atlanta moms like to be on Mother's Day? 38% of Atlanta moms prefer to be outdoors on Mother's Day; 35% prefer to be at an Atlanta restaurant; 28% prefer to be at home, enjoying a meal prepared by someone else. The perfect Mother's Day gift? More than 58% said "something made by my child(ren)"; 47% report a meal prepared by someone else is a great gift; 44% say a gift "purchased by my partner on behalf of my children" (a spa or massage gift certificate was often cited for a preferred "purchased gift").

When asked about the one thing moms need more of, most reported "time". 60% responded "alone time"; 58% said "time with my spouse"; 46% said "help around the house". Of the 275 Atlanta moms surveyed, 55% work full-time, whereas 18% work part-time and 26% are not working moms. 50% of surveyed moms first gave birth between ages 30 and 35; whereas 30% first gave birth between ages 26 and 29. Complete survey results are available at http://www.ohbabyfitness.com/news/.

"Oh Baby! Fitness will host a weekend-long celebration of motherhood on May 8 and 9," says Schexnyder. "Any mom or mom-to-be who wants to be in a class of moms or exercise with her baby during Mother's Day weekend, our classes that weekend are free!"

One Atlanta mom, Susi Duncan, shared this about her experience with Oh Baby! Fitness: "I love Oh Baby Fitness! classes. The teachers are great and experienced, I met other women who were expecting and made life-long friends, now I'm taking 'Mom & Baby' classes and meeting even more women who share the same mommy experience. It's a great place to be!"

A note about exercising while pregnant: The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends 30 minutes of aerobic activity on most days of the week while pregnant. Exercise during pregnancy can help control weight gain, shorten labor, reduce the chance of a c-section birth and help relieve the common complaints of pregnancy (including back pain, leg cramps, swelling, constipation and insomnia).
