Sophia Scarpelli, owner of the eclectic shop at 1 Liberty Way that bears her name, will be hosting a reception to introduce Brown and new contemporary artist Siri Kent, on Thursday, May 6, from 5:30 - 9 p.m., as part of the "Art to the Avenue" opening night festivities.

"Art to the Avenue" turns Greenwich into a strolling art gallery that brings contemporary artists to downtown store windows through the month of May. This year will be the biggest "Art to the Avenue" ever, with 160 artists exhibiting in 150 locations. All art is for sale by calling The Greenwich Arts Council, 203-862-6750.

Brown is a renowned painter of men and women moving through the light, space and the shadows of intimate and mysterious settings. Her paintings and drawings are in permanent collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Morgan Library in New York; The Boston Public Library; The Huntington Library in California, and university collections across the country.

Among the original framed oil paintings that Brown will exhibit at Sophia's are "Sunlight in the Studio," "In the Studio with Cherry Blossoms," "Under the Sea," "Fountain in the Park" and "Skyline in the Elevator." She also will offer two of Scarpelli's favorite black-and-white works, "In the Elevator" and "At the River Walk." Prices range from $525 to $4,500, with 30 percent of the proceeds benefiting The Greenwich Arts Council.

"We are thrilled to showcase the works of Judith Gwyn Brown and Siri Kent at Sophia's in May," said Scarpelli. "I love how Judith employs depth and perspective to entice the viewer and how each picture tells a story. I believe having her paintings and drawings here will be a visual feast for our customers, and I truly hope that we're able to support the work of The Greenwich Arts Council in an extraordinary way."
