  • (1888PressRelease) October 29, 2014 - Ampac, the world's leader in creative packaging solutions, re-introduces the AseptiPouch®, a packaging format for cold aseptic applications. With spouted pouch growing at more than 15% and aseptic stand up pouch forecasted growth (2013-2017) at 78% (L.E.K. Consulting), customers are seeking packaging answers for aseptic filling and stand-up pouches.

Originally developed and marketed in partnership with Menshen, one of the leading manufacturers of plastic closures and system packaging, and filling partner Astepo, the AseptiPouch is a pre-made stand up pouch with a unique fitment. Engineered for processing on an Astepo aseptic filling machine, the pouches are gamma irradiated (sterilized) and shipped for the filling process. The fitment spout has a flip top cap that is fully removed prior to filling and immediately reclosed after filling. The AseptiPouch system competes in distinct contrast to alternative FFS aseptic packaging systems that require the laminate web to be immersed in a peroxide bath prior to forming the now sterilized film into a pouch.

Available in three sizes (200, 500, and 1000 grams) and manufactured at Ampac's Kirchberg, Switzerland Manufacturing Center of Excellence, this process offers customers an aseptic solution offering multiple advantages for food quality, food taste and appearance, as fewer preservatives are used and nutritional vitamins are retained. The filling of low acid products is also now possible.

Further advantages for aseptic filling for the AseptiPouch are cost savings to the customer. While hot fill and retort is water and energy intense, the cold aseptic filling uses less water and energy/heat. With today's sustainability focus and awareness to environmental production, this provides an important cost savings. Products that can be filled aseptically include beverages, soups, sauces, liquid foods, dairy products, and desserts among others.

This process is important to the flexible packaging industry as solutions for filling aseptically provide greater advantages to the marketplace. With a growing number of companies searching for solutions to aseptic filling, the AseptiPouch system is attractive to those looking for pre-made stand-up pouches.

Dave Bartish, Ampac Vice President of Marketing, says, "AseptiPouch reinforces Ampac's core value to advance current technologies to meet the needs of our customers for packaging that uses less energy while providing fresher products with less preservatives. We are dedicated to producing innovative solutions while evolving the industry offerings with more developments in aseptic fitmented pouches."
