  • (1888PressRelease) October 22, 2007 - Jerusalem, Israel – Zoomix, a provider of advanced enterprise master data management solutions, today announced that ACUM, Israel's music and literary rights society, has selected Zoomix's self-learning data management software. ACUM will integrate Zoomix's system into the play list processing workflow used by the organization to determine royalty payments to its members.

ACUM protects the rights of almost six thousand Israeli music and literature creators and, through agreements with similar organizations in other countries, more than one million music creators world-wide. One of ACUM's primary functions is to collect royalties on songs played by radio stations, television broadcasters, cellular companies, dance clubs and the like. A major challenge in this area is being able to identify the songs included in play lists received from customers and to match these to the central database of songs maintained by the organization. These lists of played songs typically consist of very "dirty" data, where song titles are often abbreviated, changed, misspelled, replaced with the first few words of the song or obfuscated with additional information such as artist name or album name. Rapid and accurate matching of this highly variable and unpredictable unstructured data is critical for the accurate collection and distribution of royalties due to the music creators represented by the organization.

"Implementation of this new system brings us to a new level of efficiency for determining correct royalty distributions to the music creators we represent," explained Rami Madmon, CIO of ACUM. "During our testing of the Zoomix software, the system was able to ‘see' the correct information through the wide variations and semantic differences in which we receive it, and to automatically identify the correct works and artists. The system teaches itself the connections between names, songs, languages and more, and I am convinced that our identification process will become significantly more efficient."

"Typical systems, which require extraction of song attributes and the manual development and maintenance of extensive identification and matching rules, were impractical for ACUM's purposes because of the variability of the data being received and the resulting complexity of the required matching operation," explained David Faibish, CTO of Zoomix. "On the other hand, Zoomix's technology is particularly well-suited to semi-structured data, such as product names and song titles, where great variability and complexity are present in the data. Our solution's combination of semantic and linguistic technologies, integrated into a machine learning system that automatically improves its own ability to match records the more it is used, is an ideal solution to this particular business challenge."
