  • (1888PressRelease) February 01, 2013 - Having moved online, at great expense some six years ago, the team at Gil-lec Electrical Wholesalers wished to expand their online presence by developing product specific websites. Balking at the thought of dealing with an expensive agency, Gil-lec decided to first investigate the possibility of building their own website using an off-the-shelf template solution.

After some research they opted for EKM Powershop. With only a limited knowledge of HTML they were able to take the Powershop templates and build the first of these websites, Extractor Fan World, in a matter of days, using Microsoft Xcel. All products, descriptions, codes, images, prices and Meta data were loaded into the CMS and onto the site in bulk without the need for a specialist web developer.

The priority was to build an online environment that not only fulfilled the question posed by the search query but also implied questions such as 'which product', 'how' and 'why'. Products are clearly categorised and there are online guides to help customers choose the correct product. The site includes a sophisticated interactive feature that responds to the customer's needs, cross references those with UK wiring regulations and then displays only suitable products. Extractor Fan World was also linked to Trust Pilot, allowing potential customers to browse real life reviews of the service received from their store. Again, all interactive components were managed in-house.

Gil-lec's Martin Kamenicky said: "Avoiding the time and expense of contracting a web developer was a key objective. We do have a basic level of competence using HTML, but it's fair to say we don't have a skilled coder or developer in-house. We were very wary of using any low-cost e-commerce templates that conveyed a 'cheap' feel. It's vital to our branding to have a professional, authoritative site that conveys to our customers our level of expertise and commitment to customer service. EKM Powershop was head and shoulders above other template solutions and has enabled us to meet all build and SEO objectives in-house. We literally built what has evolved into a very high performance product sales website in about 3 working days."

"Most importantly of all; building our own site has saved us thousands of pounds. EKM's Powershop template solution costs £20 per month..and this includes hosting and support! This meant that Exatractor Fan World was turning a profit within a few days of going live. Such return on investment would not be impossible for a website built by a web agency."

"Extractor Fan World has been operational for over a year now and having grown extremely quickly now turns over about £50,000 per month. Indeed, we've taken on extra warehouse staff to cope with the volume of orders."
