  • (1888PressRelease) April 19, 2018 - IP and IC developing and manufacturing companies are being encouraged by SGS-TÜV Saar to take advantage of its bespoke ISO 26262 training courses which focus on typical challenges in developing IPs & ICs for automotive applications. The first in a number of training programs will be held in May 2018.

With new safety standards for vehicle functions and their electronic components set to come into force in July 2018, companies dealing with functional safety are being urged by SGS-TÜV Saar, the accredited testing body for functional safety, to start preparing now for the changes.

ISO 26262, the standard for functional safety, covers all vehicle functions and the electronic components that could result in personal injury in the event of failure. Extensive changes are expected that will affect the entire supply chain, from vehicle manufacturers to system and component suppliers right through to the semiconductor industry.

The Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) of Edition 2 appeared in February 2018 and, as no further changes will be made to its contents, it sends a green light to industry bodies to start preparing for the transition. For the first time, part 11 of this standard will provide a guideline how to understand and apply all normative parts during development.

To help the semiconductor industry better understand and manage the impact of the changes, SGS-TÜV Saar has designed a bespoke three-day course open to all those working in the silicon world. This training was successfully carried out worldwide for different companies, starting from IP providers, over IC developers up to silicon manufacturers.

Marcus Rau from SGS-TÜV Saar said:
“As the accredited testing body for Functional Safety, SGS-TÜV Saar is best-placed to guide the industry and our training course will focus on practical examples outlining in clear terms how to implement the standard’s requirements. All participants, who would like to get the optional SC-AFSP certificate, will have the chance to take a 2h exam right after closing the training session on the third day.

“It’s encouraging that considerable experience from the practical application of the standard has fed into the new edition of the standard. The result is the addition of two completely new sections to ISO 26262 Edition 2 which contain many improvements, clarifications and new examples, especially when talking about implications to silicon.”

Training on the semiconductor specific application of ISO 26262
The first three-day course will be held in Silicon Valley, May 28-30, 2018, followed by a course in Austin, July 24-30, 2018. Further courses can be found on the SGS website; in-house training is also available. Bookings can be made online at:
