June 10, 2008 - Zikula 1.0 is a radical departure from previous approaches to web application frameworks by providing developers with a flexible tool to quickly adapt their sites to the needs of their clients. Some competing products, especially in the Content Management category, have a large following but have a difficult time keeping up with the changing needs of developers as the web continues to change and innovate at lightning speed. Zikula 1.0 addresses this need by providing a flexible platform developers can use to quickly create and launch secure, complex, and customized applications saving both time and money.
The application framework is written in PHP and a particular highlight of the release include an object oriented data storage model, which makes the system compatible with different database systems including MySQL, Oracle and PostgreSQL. Additionally, the system includes the popular template engine Smarty, separating presentation from the code, a major accomplishment allowing designers full control of the user interface without having to deal with the backend. Finally, integration of a forms framework is included allowing sites to create online user forms ensuring user interaction and data are handled seamlessly throughout the Zikula Framework.
The Zikula Development team has pledged to continue its historical focus on security and performance while continuing to expand the system to cope with the ever changing demands placed on web applications.
