There are numerous types of driver education programs out there, public and private schools, or private business that can teach students how to drive. Based on state requirements however they are mandated to offer classroom, instructor, and parent or guardian hours in order for the student to become qualified to physically take their state’s driving test. In most cases, there are some highly beneficial three-phase driving programs.
In the first phase, through the use of textbooks, lectures, videos, and the like, students learn, via a classroom, the skills of driving, the rules, and the laws. In the second phase the student is taken to a closed course, which is normally a school parking lot or some reasonable facsimile. Speeds are kept between five to ten miles per hour where practicing stops, starts, turns, parking, and driving in reverse are safely administered. If mistakes happen there is time for the instructor to respond and give constructive feedback. In the third phase, the student graduates from the parking lot to driving with a qualified instructor in a residential area, busier streets, and then highway or city driving. The student will not progress unless he or she can handle the previous situation.
